Volunteer roles
Writer: Essays, analysis, field reflections
Writers contribute essays, analysis, and field reflections on data, AI, and digital systems in African contexts. Contributors may draw on lived experience, research exposure, or practical involvement.
Research Assistant: Background research, sourcing, synthesis
Research assistants support writers and editors through background research, sourcing, fact-checking, and synthesis. This role is well suited to students or early-career professionals.
Editor: Structural edits, clarity, review
Editors work closely with contributors to improve clarity, structure, and coherence. This role involves reviewing drafts and helping shape pieces before publication.
Visual & Design Support: Illustration, layout, visual storytelling
Designers support the visual presentation of stories through graphics, layouts, and illustrations. This role is ideal for those interested in editorial design and visual communication.
Social media manager: Extend reach of the DataVerse Blog by thoughtfully sharing published work across selected platforms
Social media managers help extend the reach of the DataVerse Blog by thoughtfully sharing published work across selected platforms. The focus of this role is editorial distribution, not growth hacking or marketing. This role is well suited to people who nnjoy communicating ideas in concise formats and have experience managing or contributing to social media accounts.
